i'm a moderately computer savvy guy. i started using vi in 1990. i recently decided to try linux as my everyday at-home workstation OS. versus windows. i installed Ubuntu 5.04, and have put reasonable but not massive effort into configuring the OS, as frankly i've got better things to do.

here's a list of things which i have to reboot in windows (xp) to do.

have to do it in windows xp
have to do it in linux
20050818 - burn a CD
it continuously says my system ain't fast enough, which windows has no such qualm.

20050818 - burn a DVD
does Ulead exist for linux ?

20050818 - play a DVD
actually i haven't checked this since i installed the mp3 libs.

20050818 - build a static HTML photo gallery

20050818 - do a lot of photo editing

20050818 - use a scanner

  20050818 - Run apache and php4 w/ confidence.
Actually i have all the confidence i need in the windows apache & php, but it's true i've got even more in the linux version.
